I got it the day after it came out. I enjoyed all the deleted pieces. I found myself mostly looking for the differences between the vhs and the dvd. I also have to admit that I am from the generation, when the original triology came out, I was a kid and can't seem to get into the new triology. I do like how all the pieces are starting to fit together and I am looking forward to Attack of the Clones ( Don't like the title though) to see how many more pieces fit, but give me the original anyday!!!

Well I haven't got a dvd player yet so I haven't got The Phantom Menace yet. I might get it eventually as I'd like to see it. It would just mean me borrowing a dvd player off my brother or something........ I work with someone who has the dvd and he says it's excellent and has been telling me about the stuff on there. Certainly sounds good value for money with all the extra stuff. So when are we gonna get all the original ones on dvd with extra stuff then???

I love the TPM DVD. I think it's excellent. I like the "Beginning" documentary the best out of all the extras; it ends with Lucas sitting down and beginning to write Ep II on a pad of paper. Great way to end it.
IMO, Lucas has shown admirable courage in announcing the AOTC title and sticking by it. It amazes me that some fans are "demanding" that he change it. Sorry, folks, it's his story. IMO it's incredibly presumptuous for fans to think they could tell it better than he could.
Not to mention ungrateful. He's created an entire universe from scratch, populated it with great characters and a wonderful storyline...and the minute he does something the fans don't agree with, they scream and yell about how it should be "taken back" from him and say, "I'm gonna leave SW for LOTR/Matrix/HP/whatever!" I say to such people, "Go right ahead. And don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. SW doesn't need 'fans' like you anyway."

There are a few really good reasons to get TPM on DVD. First, the look of the film on DVD is fantastic. All of the digital effects look crisp and clean. The climactic lightsaber duel will knock your socks off. Second, the audio commentary. You have the creator of STAR WARS talking about a STAR WARS film. Okay, there are a few other people on the commentary but it's worth it to hear why George did what he did in terms of choices and plot points. Third, the second disc and all the goodies therein. You get the two trailers, the Duel of the Fates video, the television spots (tomes, I believe they were called... One Truth, One Love, etc.), plus all the web documentaries that some didn't get to see the first go around. Finally, get the DVD because it is the only STAR WARS film available on DVD. ;D It's definitely worth it. Seeing Ewan McGregor getting his "padawan" haircut is worth the price alone! Ha-ha! 8)

i got the dvd for christmas and *finally* sat down to watch it the other day. actually, in all honestly, i only watched the deleted scenes and tv spots. The tone commercials I thought were kinda interesting. there were some that had me wondering, but overall they were really nice. as for the deleted scenes, they were interesting to see, and I'm really glad George cut some of that stuff. Too bad he didnt include the tuskens shooting the jawas, i really liked that part. oh well. now i just hafta watch the documentary and the movie...

I think all of the scene deletions were wise decisions, except for one--when Qui Gon slashes down Darth Maul's probe droid, because it explains why Qui Gon and Anakin are running toward the ship when we see them next.
IMO, the podrace is a bit overextended as it is, so a longer podrace is not a good idea. The waterfall sequence is nothing but extraneous eye candy. Ani's fight with Greedo is a good idea in terms of foreshadowing but it's not done very well onscreen, and Padme waking Ani up does nothing but provide that annoying little friend of Ani's (Kitster?) with more undeserved screen time; plus, it reminds me of the cheesy Terry Brooks novelization and how it portrays Ani as being so in awe of Padme's beauty that he's struck speechless. That isn't the way Ani is at all in the movie--instead he has an attitude like, "I'm gonna marry you someday!" (Credit goes to RebelHawk.)
Which brings me to the "Beginning" documentary and the Ani audition scenes. Many people think that the other blonde boy was a better choice for Ani than Jake Lloyd. I don't agree. RebelHawk pointed out that he, along with the dark-haired boy, seemed intimidated by Natalie Portman. Jake wasn't. He clicked with her, and I think Natalie liked him the best of the three boys--she went over and sat by him when they were saying their lines. I said this on another forum--IMO, him clicking with her is more important than him being a junior Laurence Olivier.
Oh, and Ewan's buzzcut is a great scene too, although I felt a twinge of sadness seeing all that beautiful Highland red hair falling to the floor! I liked Ewan's crack when Lucas' daughter asked what would happen if her dad decided Obi Wan's hair should be longer in the film: "Then he can wear the wig."

I though the second kid was MUCH better. I don't know what crack Lucas was on when he hired Jake, but it must have been good. Jake is one of the worst actors I've EVER seen. Thank God he's faded into obscurity now ::shudders::
Personally, I thought TPM sucked massively. It was pure eye candy and Lucas cashing out and marketing a three hour toy and game commercial to ten year olds. Ugh.

omg shelley, are we agreeing on something tpm-related?!? I had almost the same exact reactions to the cut scenes. I guess George really liked the podrace, cuz he shot way too much of it. I did like the tusken/jawa thing, i think that shoulda been in the movie in place of some other unneccessary pod clip. I was looking forward to seeing the fight with greedo, but it did turn out pretty bad on film. after wald, i cant look at another little rodian again. the scene of padme waking anakin made me cringe. from threepio's "we want this pod to be the *shiniest*" to kitster, that scene was begging to be cut. I do like anakin's attitude. I think is dialogue was weak in quite a few scenes, but thats something else. He's almost exactly like the kid I babysit, right down to the "I'm gonna marry you." Except I'm not going to marry him.

LOL...stranger things have happened, Toryn; I'm glad we can agree on some TPM-related things.
Your comment on the kid you babysat reminds me of a kid who lived next door to my dad when I was twelve. He had a big crush on me; I overheard him telling my half-brother about it. He even let me use his favorite toy (coincidence, coincidence--it was a toy lightsaber) to "knight" the winner of whatever footrace or bicycle race I was asked to supervise.
