Hi folks! I'm new to this forum but have been a SW fan for...well, since the fist film came out way back in the 70's! I hope to have a lot of fun here and meet some great people. I love SW fan fiction and currently I'm writing material for a zine I will be co-publishing. If you're interested in finding out more about it, please e-mail me and be sure to use 'Resurrection' as the subject for your message. My addie is available through my profile. Hope to hear from lots of you

Thanks for asking your question concerning what a 'fanzine' is exactly. To put it simply, a 'fanzine' is an amature publication presenting a collection of fan fiction stories ( often illustrated by fan artists ) and artwork which are printed and bound in somewhat of a magazine fashion. In the days before the internet extisted, fanzines were the only way for fans to obtain stories or have their work diplayed for other fans to enjoy. Submitted material is not paid for; most publishers offer a 'contributor's' copy or a discounted price, for those writers and artists who provided work for the publication issue. 'Zine publishers will print a 'disclaimer' stating the material offered is in no way intended as an infringement upon the copyrights of the creator(s) of the movies, shows and characters therein. They are aslo not seeking to make an income off of the 'zine. Money taken in sales is used to pay for the printing costs of the next issue.
Many 'zines strive to present their contents with beautiful illustrations and often have exquistie color covers. Issues are often displayed for sale at conventions for various fandoms and, or, offered for sale on the web or through ads placed in other 'zines. Some internet sites provide listings for various 'zines ( Fanfix.com and Corellian Embassy being two that provide this ).
I hope that I've answered your question and not confused you. I'd like to close with a little more information about where you can find zines. There are various fan conventions held around the world for many fandoms. A very popular one in the United States is Media West Con. It is held in Lansing, Michigan and has existed for 23 years now! It shows no signs of letting up either! ( You can find out more about this convention at it's website: www. mediawestcon.com. Typing in 'Media West Con' at a search engine can also take you to their site ). Conventions have long been a places where fans of many shows, movies, and even books gather --- usually once a year. Many have dealers rooms, art shows, panel discussions and often costume contests. If I'm not mistaken, some of the Star Wars sites also provide information on up-coming conventions ( I believe Force.net is one of those ).
Thanks again for asking your question. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if anything I tried to answer for you wasn't made clear.
