Sorry I don't have much talent to write so I'll le you fulfill your story... But for my first post on this message board (Hi to everybody), I would like to express my opinion about the original subject. (Please forgive my English...) And I feel quite ashamed to say COPL felt like one of the best book of the StarWars expanded Universe I've read. (Perhaps Shadows of the Empire was a bit better...) First of all because it dealt with my favourite characters in Star Wars ! And the cover was just fantastic ! The first time I read it (and each time afterwards) I couldn't let the book down before I finished it ! I read many people saw Wolverton's Leia as a bitch. I don't agree ! Sh's just an angry Leia. If you watch A New Hope (or theEmpire) a few more times, you'll see Leia is quite, well, tough with everybody. Especially when she's angry ! (Poor Chewbacca didn't deserve to be called "walking carpet" for example) Everything that counts for her is victory for the Rebellion and its ideals ! In fact, i found in COPL something that I think had disappeared in Timothy Zahn's books for example. Leia is not just a nice princess who falls in Looooove with a smuggler. She's a young and dynamical woman who says what she thinks. I think it's true that Leia's character has changed a bit. But the reason for that evolution is quite simple ! War is finished, and she discovers everything has changed in her life. I find it natural she tries to get back to what she was once, that is a princess like the others ! Moreover, her boyfriend leaves her to fight Zsinj, and she encounters a youg, friendly and beautiful prince. Who loves her ! And when she tells Han about it, he starts acting like a child, whining and so on... I mean, seeing Leia leaving good ol' Han for Isolder is not that absurd ! Then, there are still wonderful scenes in this book, like the one a,nother person was reffering to, with Han end the Night Sisters, or the funny dinner scene between Han and Leia in the Falcon ! To conclude, wall, maybe the Han character is a bit too "looser". But after all, he's about to loose the woman she loves... and love is not an easy thing to get from a nice Corellian scoundrel like Han !

Ok, I'm guessing my screen name gives away my position here. I have to admit, when I read it at 13, I liked it simply because it was all a poor H/L fan could get. Now, older, wiser, and a veteran of reading innumerable fan fic stories at 21, I HATE THIS BOOK. All previously stated reasons apply as well as this little fact no one's mentioned: am I the only person who noticed Wolverton said Luke had a blue lightsaber? I mean, we can't all memorize the trilogy backwards and forwards, but anyone who sat down and watched it at least once would know Luke lost that blue lightsaber along with his hand and came back in ROTJ with a green one. And according to the EU, he didn't get the other one back till the last page or two of The Last Command. My guess is Wolverton watched ANH and said, "Hey, I don't need to watch the rest of this! I've got all I need right here!" Because quite frankly, the Han and Leia we meet there would act the way they did in COPL. It isn't till ESB that the Han and Leia we all know and love emerge.
Just my two cents.

i agree with downwithcopl! thats on the freakin dot!
and you werent the only one that noticed. also in the crystal star...luke lights up the room with a BLUE lightsaber...shouldnt it be green? crystal star by the way has centaurs, dragons and people with two toned hair and sharp teeth that remind me of the headless hessian with his head on (christopher walken) in sleepy hollow. HYAAAAAAA! its harry potter meets star wars. dont even get me started on the disguises. green hair and bright purple eyemakeup...leia is good at makeup. you notice! she wouldnt do makeup like a 5 year old would. and i dont think i like harrison with a beard...i like seeing that chin scar. dont even ask me about what i thought of waru.
copl has a big big problem. its called isolder aka prince fabio. i hate that guy. so copl can "kiss my wookiee!"

I pretend COPL doesn't exist.
RUN, don't walk, to buy a copy of Tatooine Ghost. It is so full of wonderfull H/L moments that it completely makes up for COPL.
