It is a minor thing in the film, but I feel it represents something much larger. Nsync is the symbol of selling out, and I dont think that message deserves any part in Star Wars, no matter how big or small. Besides, how many articles on it, besides those of TFN, have mentioned that you cant even see them?? Very very few. If my family and friends are anything to go by, the general public has the impression that you can see them.
"unnecessary crap" means quite literally unnecessary crap. TPM would have been just as fine without jar jar stepping in dung, or the fart before the podrace. Theres really no need for these gimmicks that, at least to me, seem to be there only to please the younger children in the audience (no offense to you if your an adult and found it funny, those little jokes just tend to be more of the kind that little kids would find hysterical). Nsync would fall under the "crap" category.
And dont worry, I'm plenty pissed at mccallum, but in the end it is ultimatly lucas's decision. IMO, it would be a very poor decision to keep the cameo.

Latest news from TF.N is that N'Sync is out. The scene they shot has been cut from the film. So it really doesn't matter anymore, does it?

Nsync would fall under the "crap" category.-- I didn't mind the stepping in dung, but I agree about the fart. Those are exactly two incidences of humor that were unnecessary, and they were probably put in to appeal to kids (and also to people who like what's been referred to as "toilet humor"). However, they didn't ruin the movie for me. I don't dwell on them. Every movie that comes out has unnecessary stuff in it. SW is no different. As for N'Sync, I really don't care what the general public thinks. If they think it's going to be a huge big deal with N'Sync singing and dancing, let them. I know it'd be a cameo you have to be looking for to see. You may think that the general public sneering at SW and SW fans is a new thing, but believe me, it isn't. Not at all. The N'Sync cameo is just the latest excuse. --And dont worry, I'm plenty pissed at mccallum, but in the end it is ultimatly lucas's decision. IMO, it would be a very poor decision to keep the cameo.-- Well, as RebelHawk pointed out, the cameo was cut, so you don't have to worry.

something on TFN had said they were visible haha, I know sneering at SW fans is not a new sport. But it was easy to defend being a fan of such great films. You cant defend nsync. Its like they have a huge sign on their foreheads that reads "Hate Me". I really hope this cut is for good.

Actually, Toryn, it wasn't easy to defend being a fan of such great films...because they weren't viewed as great until sometime in the mid-90s.
I hope N'Sync are cut, not because I think it's a big deal, but because it'll be one less thing for people to get all upset over.
